The Australian Family Association has alerted people to a new move to abolish “The Lord’s Prayer” in Parliament. Stop this attack by sending a submission to the Senate enquiry mentioned below. Don’t be afraid of the word submission - it is really only a letter you send to a committee.
Address your remarks to “The Senate Standing Committee on Procedure” and post it to Mr Richard Pye, Clerk of the Senate, PO Box 6100, Parliament House, Canberra. ACT 2600. Email will be quicker:

Some points you can make in your submission (in your own words) are:
- Australia was founded upon Judeo-Christian virtues and opening the parliament with a prayer has been a tradition since Federation.
- Australia recognises and proudly acknowledges its Christian heritage and traditions by continuing to use The Lord’s Prayer at the beginning of each sitting day of Parliament. This should continue to occur.
- Removing the parliamentary prayer with the insipid secular alternative that is proposed by The Greens will not unite Australians or make Australia more inclusive but instead sow discord, and show that acknowledging our Christian roots is unwelcome in the public sphere.
- The Australian Parliament is derived from the Westminster System of Government where religion was part of the foundation of the system of government. It is important to continue to recognise our history.
- It is an historical reality that Australia was founded by a Christian nation (Britain) and settled as a Christian nation. These underpinnings of Christian tolerance mean we welcome equally people of all faiths or no faith at all. We deny our historical reality by doing away with our Christian heritage at our peril.
