The Question of David Icke By Peter West

I have only seen one David Icke book, one with him full naked on the cover, if my memory serves me well. That stunt was played out by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, so we are not off to a good start. Then there is the lizard people stuff, which could be a metaphor, or may not be; he does not come clean. But, whatever, he has been banned, deplatformed by both YouTube and Facebook. One would think, normally that he must have said something to get up the Establishment’s nose:

“The video service, which is owned by Google, told the BBC: “YouTube has clear policies prohibiting any content that disputes the existence and transmission of Covid-19 as described by the WHO and the NHS.
“Due to continued violation of these policies we have terminated David Icke’s YouTube channel.”

The ban follows a similar move by Facebook, which removed Icke’s page on Friday. Well-known medics and broadcasters including Dr Christian Jessen and former junior doctor Adam Kay have called on social networks to remove Icke from their platforms. They are backed by the Centre for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), which claims Icke’s conspiracies over Covid-19 have been viewed more than 30m times. “We commend YouTube on bowing to pressure and taking action on David Icke’s channel,” said CCDH’s chief executive Imran Ahmed. “However, there remains a network of channels and shadowy amplifiers, who promote Mr Icke’s content [and] need to be removed.” The CCDH asked for other networks to follow the lead, and added: “It is time for Instagram and Twitter to follow Facebook and YouTube by acting to remove Icke and his content from their platforms. “Lies cost lives in a global pandemic, and their failure to act promptly puts us all at risk.”

I happen to hold to the mainstream view, and are at variance with some of the milder conspiracy theorists at this friendly Alor.org site. My gut feeling is that Icke is weird. Nevertheless, banning even a weird Icke faces the objection that we defenders of free speech always make: what are you afraid of? If truth is on the side of the Establishment, as I believe it is, that is, from what little I know, Covid-19 does seem to exist and be a clear and present threat, surely that position can be defended against all challenges? Why then has not Icke been refuted decisively by the tribunal of reason? Why fear Icke? Suppression of points of view on major political matters always raises suspicions, especially when the major publishers are banning books now which discuss any aspect of the Covid-19 pandemic, including the political and economic significance. To do so is tyrannical, and completely inconsistent with even living in the remnant of liberal democracy, and suspicious of another agenda. See how the conspiracies get going! In a short space of time, our fundamental freedoms have been stripped from us, and we have become subjects of medical technocracy. I shudder to think what it will be like when a worse pandemic at the 1918 level strikes and bodies are being stacked in the streets.
