The Invasion of Greece By Richard Miller

Wow, just wow, it is all happening in Greece, Camp of the Saints style, as thousands of refugees charge the border, and Turkey, in what should be seen as an act of war, opens the floodgates:

“True to Erdogan's prior threat that Europe would see 18,000 to as many as 30,000 refugees pour across European Union borders on Saturday after Turkey 'opened the gates,' it's being reported that the number of migrants at Evros — a key land border between Turkey and Greece —  has now reached 15,000. Throughout Saturday the area became a war zone as thousands of refugees, urged on by Turkish authorities, attempted to cross into Greece en masse. In places like the now completely closed Kastanies crossing (sealed by the Greek side as Turkish guards stood down and let migrants pass freely), thousands are stuck in 'no man's land' between the borders, with the situation fast descending into chaos.

According to the Greek daily Ekathimerini:

This is the first time such a large group of migrants and refugees has attempted a crossing en masse at Evros, a move that Greek authorities are treating as a consequence of the announcement from the Turkish government on Thursday night that it would no longer prevent migrants trying to reach the European Union. Germany's Der Spiegal published footage showing migrants hurling tear gas grenades at Greek police, reportedly canisters provided by Turkish security themselves. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis earlier vowed that "no illegal entries into Greece will be tolerated" - and has authorized a militarized response to seal border crossings with Turkey, which has included naval patrols in the Aegean to thwart migrant boats from passing. At the Kastanies crossing Greek guards were seen firing tear gas on tightly packed groups of hundreds of migrants: Guards on Greece’s northeastern land border with Turkey made “deterrent use” of tear gas to disperse some 500 refugees and migrants trying to enter the country and the European Union after Ankara loosened controls on migrant flows. Turkish border guards “have disappeared since this morning,” the mayor of the Greek border town of Orestiada, Vassilis Mavridis, said, adding that the group tried to enter through the Kastanies crossing.”

“Greece has completely shut down its borders Friday, sending dozens of naval vessels to patrol the Greek islands after Turkey announced it would allow all Syrian migrants to head to Europe. A government representative, who wished to remain anonymous, told German media that Greece has closed its entire land and sea border with Turkey and will allow no one to cross the border at all, German tabloid Bild reports. Citing sources, the newspaper claimed 50 naval ships — likely predominantly patrol vessels — of the Hellenic Navy supported by helicopters were being sent to the European Union’s external border. The newspaper also cited accounts of Greek authorities setting off tear gas at land border crossing points as migrants attempted to move into Europe. The Turkish government has not made an official government announcement that the border is open but a source informed news agency Reuters that all border guards, police and Turkish coastguard officers were ordered to stand down. Turkish journalist Ragip Solyu added that the border would be open for all Syrians wanting to head to Europe for the next 72 hours. Ömer Celik, the spokesman for the Islamist AKP party, the party of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, alluded to the fact that the borders could be opened stating, “Our refugee policy remains the same, but here we have a situation. We can no longer keep the refugees.”

Can Dündar, a Turkish journalist who fled from the Erdogan regime to Germany, made a post on social media platform Twitter claiming to show a video of released Syrian prisoners heading for the Greek border. Other news agencies have shown similar videos and photographs and claimed that hundreds of migrants have begun attempting to cross into Greece. Greek government sources have said Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has greatly increased overall security on the border and Lieutenant General Konstantinos Floros, head of the Hellenic Armed Forces also travelled to the region of Evros to prepare for an expected surge in migrants. The new wave of migrants comes as tensions on the Greek islands of Lesbos and Chios remain high following riots involving locals who injured dozens of police officers while protesting against the building of new migrant centres. A total of 52 officers and 10 local residents were injured during the riots and Greek police have announced they will be launching a probe into the incidents.”

Clearly, Europe and the United States need to teach Turkey a lesson by imposing severe economic sanctions upon it, and sealing all borders, so tightly that even a wild turkey could not waddle across. But, I suppose, the above is about the best we will see, while the ultimate cause goes unaddressed:

At least Viktor Orban is standing up to Turkey, and is prepared to use force against the migration weapon:
  https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7583477/Viktor-Orban-warns-Hungary-use-force-fend-new-wave-migrants-Turkey.html

“Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has warned he will 'use force' to fend off migrants if Turkey delivered on its threat to allow 3.6million refugees to flood into Europe. Orban built a steel fence on Hungary's border with Serbia to seal off the Balkans route of migration, where hundreds of thousands of people marched through from the Middle East to Western Europe at the peak of the crisis in 2015. 'If Turkey sets off further hundreds of thousands (on top of those it has already), then we will need to use force to protect the Hungarian border and the Serbian-Hungarian frontier and I do not wish for anyone that we should need to resort to that,' Orban said Wednesday night. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan last week threatened to 'open the gates' to allow Syrian refugees to pour into Europe if the EU chose to criticise his invasion. 'Hey EU, wake up. I say it again: if you try to frame our operation there as an invasion, our task is simple: we will open the doors and send 3.6 million migrants to you,' Erdogan told the parliament in Ankara last Thursday as his bombardments began on northern Syria. Millions crossed into Turkey during the Syrian Civil War, fleeing President Bashar al-Assad and ISIS, and Erdogan has outlined a controversial 'safe zone' to repatriate those migrants. Orban told private broadcaster HirTV: 'The next weeks will decide what Turkey does with these people ... It can steer them in two directions: take them back to Syria or set them off towards Europe. 'If Turkey chooses the latter, these people will arrive at Hungary's southern border in huge masses,' Orban said, adding that the EU, while criticising Ankara, should provide more funds to Turkey to help rebuild Syrian towns. The EU relies on Turkey to curb the arrival of refugees into the continent following a 2016 agreement to seal off the Aegean route after more than a million people entered the bloc.”
