Problems with the Independent Autopsy Report of George Floyd? By Chris Knight

The mainstream media take is that Chauvin, being a chauvinist, killed giant of a man, bouncer George Floyd, by strangling his neck. After all, George said that he could not breathe. But stop right there. If you are having your air supply cut off, you don’t articulate talk about it, because your breathe is cut off! Further, looking carefully at the knee on next photo, the knee is on the side of the neck, perhaps not even that. What would be threatened here, is that the blood supply to his head would be cut off, and also there is a possible threat to having his neck bones broken depending upon the amount of pressure. In my non-medical opinion, it would have been more likely that those neck injuries resulted. What do the experts say?

“The death of George Floyd, which triggered widespread protests across the US, has been declared a homicide in an official post-mortem examination. The 46-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest while being restrained by Minneapolis police, the report found. It listed Mr Floyd's cause of death as "cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression".

“George Floyd had fentanyl in his system when he was killed, and died from a  heart attack ... according to the medical examiner. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner released its toxicology findings and say George died from cardiopulmonary arrest ... which complicated law enforcement's subdual, restraint and neck compression of him. That is critical, but the report also says this under "how the injury occurred" -- it says George experienced "a cardiopulmonary arrest while being restrained by law enforcement." In other words ... he suffered a heart attack while they were arresting him, and that complicated their efforts to subdue him. The report says George had fentanyl in his system, and they also found signs of recent methamphetamine use. It also says his manner of death is homicide. The results were released just hours after the Floyd family's independent autopsy showed he died from "mechanical asphyxia" ... due to Derek Chauvin's knee on his neck, and another officer on his back.”

“The findings of the world renowned Dr. Michael Baden and Dr. Allecia Wilson differ greatly from the autopsy results conducted  by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office last week. Baden was hired by the Floyd family to conduct the independent autopsy after the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled last week that Floyd hadn’t died from “strangulation or asphyxia.” Baden and Wilson say the sustained pressure applied by Derek Chauvin on George Floyd’s neck impeded blood flow to his brain, while weight applied by two other officers, who had placed their knees into his back, also limited his ability to breathe. Baden criticized those findings Monday, pointing out that the emphasis the pressure on his neck may have had on his death wouldn’t show up in an autopsy because the pressure is released by the time body arrived at the examiner’s office. Baden also refuted the idea that Floyd had coronary artery disease. In a comment in reference to his age group’s susceptibility to coronavirus, the 85-year-old said, ‘I wish I had the same coronary arteries that Mr. Floyd had.’”

The problem I have with the claims of the second autopsy is that if in criticism of the first autopsy, pressure on the neck would not have shown up, then how do they then know that the sustained neck pressure was the cause, when they seem to explicitly undermine that ground? It seems logically to undermine itself. None of this puts Chauvin in the clear, as his acts were clearly police brutality, but it is important that this guy is tried for the right crimes and does not walk just because there is a need for revenge. Think justice instead, and by the rule of law, that requires that both sides get a fair deal. It is hardly likely that Chauvin, after all the riots, could find a fair jury.
