To The Age All proposals for Aboriginal constitutional recognition, including treaty-making and a "voice" to or in Parliament, are against the interests of Australians generally - and, ironically, that includes Aboriginals. So your advocacy of such recognition ("'Voice' belongs in our constitution", 4/11), though well-meaning, is mistaken. Strategic interests and internal security demand that we should maintain this continent as a single nation. Unity means strength. We can still celebrate Aboriginal history and culture, and pay respect to those Australians having Aboriginal ancestry, without weakening the political structure of the nation.
