Letter to The Editor - Mankind's greatest cultural achievements

To The Australian              Concerning the dismissive claim ("Assange sought Moscow bolthole as troubles mounted", 19/9) that Israel Shamir is "a fringe intellectual", it is worth noting that many of mankind's greatest cultural achievements were pioneered by persons regarded initially as fringe intellectuals.
