Letter to The Editor - Far from "loitering around the palace” and providing an "uninspiring example"

To The Age        Critics of our monarchy (20/10) are often on unsound ground. Joanne Jennings claims that "we are now part of Asia." Geographically yes, but culturally no. Look at our language for one thing. Alan Kininmonth deprecates "a long history of semi-benign irrelevance", but ignores the profound stability and security that we have been given for over two centuries by the checks and balances inbuilt into our constitutional history, presided over by dedicated Christian sovereigns. Worst of all, Des Files misrepresents the contribution of Prince Charles. Far from "loitering around the palace” and providing an "uninspiring example", he has become the most intelligent, sensitive, caring and hard-working Prince of Wales in British history, numbering among his friends the brilliant adventurer and Jungian philosopher, Laurens van der Post, the Muslim sage and Shakesperean scholar, Martin Lings, and Australia's own extraordinary polymath, Michael Collins Persse.
